Which is better: Going to the city or doing ten-pin bowling for ten weeks?

Sunday, November 29th, 2009

I’ve chosen my sport/activity for next term and got allocated to ten-pin Bowling instead of going to the city, which I normally do every term. I’m still undecided whether to try changing back to it or not.

Which do you prefer: Walking around in the city or ten-pin bowling?

I prefer 10 pin bowling…because I live in a city already.,

What is the difference between a 1000 and a 4000 finish on a bowling ball?

Friday, November 27th, 2009

I am learning how to purchase a Bowling ball. The many specs are confusing me. Is there a web site or book to help me learn what hook potential, revs etc. mean?

The finish on the ball indicates how the ball reacts to the lane. A 4000 grit finish will slide more and have a lot more back-end reaction. Go to youtube.com and type in any bowling ball. there you can see how each ball rolls and reacts to the lane.

Does anybody have tips for winning Penguin Bowling on the Ice Age 2 game?

Friday, November 27th, 2009

I feel really stupid asking this, but I just can’t seem to get 100 points and win. Or is there any way you can avoid this mini-game and continue with the whole game?

You have to score 100 points and you have 20 tries to do so. Its very easy, just aim the main arrow right in the middle of the penguins and keep the swing metre right in the middle as well. If all goes well, you will have scored 100 points faster then you can say STRIKE. If you dont manage to do so in the first try, then dont worry because you will get retries.

is there a technique to ten pin bowling ?

Friday, November 27th, 2009

i played last night and i was terrible perhaps if i got a few tips then i might be able to win a game .

Use a four step approach. Try this a few times to determine the best starting position as you want to finish with the toe of your right foot (assuming you are right handed) right at but not touching the foul line. Hold the ball slightly in front of your stomach with your right hand on the right side of the ball and your left underneath it. 1. Take a small step with your right foot and at the same time push the ball away from you. 2. As you take the next and longer step with your left foot, allow the ball to begin to swing behind you. Keep your right thumb pointed to the left, 3. The ball should complete a swing behind you as you finish your next step with your right foot then as you 4. STEP AND SLIDE on your left foot while your right leg swings around behind your left leg, the ball swings forward and you release it. The swing of the right leg will counterbalance the twisting caused by the weight of the ball. Watch other people who are scoring well for this technique. The ball should be released about half way between the center and right edge of the lane. It will gently curve (hook) to the left and enter the pins between the first pin and the one to the right. You do not want to hit the head pin dead on. It will take some time to develop the technique but will be worth it.

help me please i want to buy a bowling ball?

Friday, November 27th, 2009

My speed is 26 kph and i wanted to buy a new ball my current ball is hte first x-factor i wanted to replace it because i dont get any high games anymore =) CAN you suggest balls??

There’s really no reason to change equipment, especially if you’re an experienced bowler with knowledge of the basics. If you can get that bowling ball plugged and redrilled with an exotic drilling to max out it’s hook potential, then go for it. If you’re looking to replace it, then check out these manufacturer’s websites for further information on their Bowling balls. Morich Bowling, Brunswick, Columbia 300, Storm, AMF, Ebonite, Elite Bowling, Hammer/Faball, Track or Roto Grip. You’ll definitely be wowed by the selection of Bowling Balls out there!

For example, this is my current "arsenal":
Brunswick Red Zone (RICO drilling, sanded)
Brunswick Red Zone (Drilled for more distance & polished)
Brunswick Ultimate Inferno
Morich Awesome Finish
Elite PBA Chameleon
Elite Black Label
Columbia 300 Big Shot
Hammer Black Widow Bite
Hammer Black Widow Venom

Good luck!

Which bowling ball is right for ?

Friday, November 27th, 2009

I am a beginner bowler in the process of learning the hook. Recently on a trip to the local alley I met with an experienced bowler. I was simply using a house ball and the gentlemen commented on my form and how my technique and hook was probably as good as it could be using a house ball. He recommended the company Storm and suggested their Bowling balls were quite nice. I don’t want to spent too much considering this is just a hobby of mine and something I do in my spare time with friends. BTW, I am left-handed in case that matters. The guy at the alley mentioned something about certain balls only allow the tips of your fingers rather than the entire finger in the holes and getting a ball with the proper core so that the weight is shifted to one side allowing the ball to hook better. I know I’m probably not describing it very well, again novice, but I hope you get the gist of it. I’d appreciate suggestions on what type of ball would be good for me. Thanks!

not a bad explanation but if its a first ball, dont spend too much. stay away from the higher end of the scale…until you learn how to bowl with a finger tip grip its not worth wasting the money. go for an ‘entry level re-active’ the fella at the local pro shop should understand this. maybe something like a columbia scout or storm tropical? good luck….and hope this helps a little

Could someone please help me edit my speech? (topic: using the nintendo wii in phys. ed. classes.)?

Friday, November 27th, 2009

Here is my speech. If you could post it after editing I would really appreciate it. It is supposed to be less than 5 min long, and I’m not sure what to get rid of. Sorry, it is REALLY bad! Also, please leave any suggestions you may have for me to improve it! Feel free to write right on the speech! (or you can just put comments at the end, anything works!! Thanks SOO MUCH!

(Pretends to be Bowling with Wii remote) YES! Strike! (Takes another shot) Aww… gutter ball! I just love my Nintendo Wii, but should it be replacing my phys. ed. classes at school? Yes, it is an insane idea, and five schools in Worcestershire, England are getting mixed reviews on their new program that incorporates the Nintendo Wii into their curriculum. The program may have won a national sports award, but several people disagree with the idea.

Good afternoon (teachers name) and my fellow classmates. I am here today to speak to you about why the Nintendo Wii should not be incorporated in North America’s physical education curriculum. For those of you who are unaware of, or do not completely understand the concept of the Wii, it is basically a gaming system, like the GameCube, or the Xbox, but with a twist. Instead of controlling characters on the screen by merely pressing buttons on a controller, you actually have to move the remote, and the character on the screen will follow your movements. For example, in some games, the action required to make your character jump is to quickly flick the remote upwards. A game that is very popular on the Wii is Wii Sports. On it you can play five different sports: bowling, baseball, boxing, golfing, and tennis. You play these by mimicking the movements made while playing one of these sports in real life.

Now, I am certain that several of you are pondering this question, “Why would this gaming system be part of a schools physical education program?” Good question! How exactly is a game, where all one is required to do is to quickly flip their hand upwards or to the side, going to give kids the amount of physical activity they need in a day? Guess what? ITS NOT! A study done by University students in Halifax shows that the Nintendo Wii fails as a decent form of cardiovascular exercise. The game playing is just not intense enough, and the workout you get is being compared to talking a walk through a park.
Now, what is happening when these systems are being put into schools programs? Chelsea Intermediate School has purchased seven of these systems, twenty-eight controllers, and Wii Sports. The entire school has access to them, but gym classes take priority. So, depending on the size of classes in that school, some students may need to wait for a turn on the Wii, wasting time that could be spent doing effective physical activities. For example, if there is a large class of 35 students, 7 students will be sitting, being inactive, while they wait to play on the video game. Another issue is that each Wii system costs approximately $250, not including all the controllers. So, for a school to buy 28 Wii systems, without controllers or tax, it would cost about $7,000! That’s a lot of money for a school to spend on video games!
Now, I would like to speak to you about a new system for the Wii coming to North America in late May, called Wii Fit. It is a program that uses a platform called the Wii Balance Board. This board can weigh the user, tell them where their centre of gravity is exactly, and what their body mass index is. This game has about 40 different activities, including step dancing, skiing, yoga, pushups, and other exercises. This program also includes a virtual personal trainer. On May 21st, it will be available in Canada for $89.99.
Wii Fit is a much better option for a workout than Wii sports. It requires the whole body to do the activities, and is a lot more physical. Instead of just flicking your wrist, you may be required to squat down as low as you possibly can, without losing your balance, then jump up as fast as you can, to gain a good jump while playing skiing. Wii Fit actually affects your body and will give you a good workout. But does that mean it should be being used in schools? When kids have the option of running around outside in fresh air, or standing inside on a board, staring at a TV screen, which sounds better? When playing sports on the Wii, instead if with actual people, you don’t get the opportunity to learn lessons such as ones about working as a team. You don’t get to play with your friends, you don’t get to breath in fresh air, and you don’t get to feel the competitive aspect of sports. Some may argue that competitiveness ruins students gym class experience, but in small doses, it can be beneficial, and also teach some life lessons.
I have one last small, but important, point that I would like to make. When Wii Fit was released in Japan, the Balance Board had a weight limit of 300 pounds. There are rumors that when Wii Fit is released in North America, the Board will have a higher weight limit, for heavier users here. This says several things, whether it is just a rumor or not. If North America’s population is more overweight and unfit than the rest of the world, than we shouldn’t be inside saying we are getting exercise by staring at a TV screen and flicking our wrists.

Perhaps using the Wii for physical activities in the comfort of your own home isn’t such a bad idea, but it is a video game. And where do video games belong? At home! Not in schools! I hope today that I have convinced you that a phys ed. program incorporating the Nintendo Wii should not be coming to North America.

it’s absolutely wonderful! i suggest you dont use caps for "IT’S NOT!"
otherwise good job
*applause*

Does a Danoz Direct vacuum cleaner pick up bowling balls?

Friday, November 27th, 2009

I have a broken arm and I recently purchased a new vacuum cleaner that I saw advertised on the television. There is a Bowling ball on my loungeroom floor and no one is home to move it away. I bought the vacuum cleaner because on TV they said that it has enough suction to pick up the ball. Is this true?

no

I am looking for techniques to sand wooden bowls?

Friday, November 27th, 2009

The bowls are mounted so can be rotated at 700-1000 rpm.

Use sanding sponges available at home depot, lowes, harborfreight.com etc. There are many different thicknesses, grits and sizes. great for sanding contoured objects.
