Are there any tips for bowling?

Friday, April 30th, 2010

I’m going Bowling in a while, and last time i went i got my @ss kicked completley.

Are there any tips to help me improve or is it just something you get good at with time?

Tips would be appreciated though :D

don;t move your body too much, keep your hand straight.. when you release the ball keep your wrist always straight.. otherwise the ball will turn to the gutters. and aim for the centre. Don;t give it too much strenght …

that’s all basically .. the rest you just get better =)

Won some short & fat powder skis, should I keep or sell?

Friday, April 30th, 2010

I’d won a contest last week and the prize arrived today, a pair of 167cm K2 Coomba fat powder skis.

Now some background…

I live in Colorado and LOATHE groomers and don’t do park.

Until now my only skis have been a pair of obnoxiously soft 170cm beginner skis, I despise them for being unmaneuverable on bumps and trees and for chattering on even the mildest blue runs. Trying to initiate quick turns on the steeps is difficult because I feel like there’s an excessive amount of clumsy ski flopping around ahead of my bindings.

So a few weeks ago I rented a pair of twin tip 161cm Völkl Wall skis and had a blast in the back bowls of Vail on a powder day doing trees and bumps. I loved how responsive and lively they were.

So should I sell the 167cm Coombas and just buy a shorter pair of twin tips? Or should I ride the Coombas? (they’ve virgin, still in the shrink wrap, no bindings)

I hope I’ve provided enough info but if you have any questions just post and I’ll update thanks!

-Dan
If I were to buy some twin tips I would actually buy a fairly wide pair since I’d be using them for bowl terrain and not park.
Both my beginner skis AND the Volkls I rented have a radius of 16. The Coombas have a radius of 22.

Personally, I’d sell the powder skis and find a good pair of all mountain skis. Since you like to get a variety of terrain in over the course of the day, I’d think you’d want something thats a little more versatile than a dedicated powder ski.

Now, to be fair, I have never been on a pair of Coombas. But if you can sell them and cover the cost of a good pair of all-rounders, I don’t see that you have anything to lose.

Tips on making the bowling team for my sophomore year?

Thursday, April 29th, 2010

Ok this december when im a sophomore, ill be trying to make the Bowling team, i just started pro bowling today and will practice till then. I just need tips like what is the right bowling ball weight when im 15 1/2 and 125 pounds and other stuff similar.

By the way is making the bowling team easier then making the basketball team?

OKay, making the bowling team is probably easier than making the basketball team depending on your ability and if you are a 15 year old male I would probably use a 15 pound ball… I am 112 pound girl and i use a 115 pound ball so it really just depends on your muscular ability and such

Difference between Columbia blue dot and white dot bowling balls?

Wednesday, April 28th, 2010

I’ve been bowling a lot lately just for fun and I’m going to purchase a bowling ball.
Just wondering if anyone knew if there was a difference between Columbia blue dot and white dot Bowling balls, or if it was just the name? I checked the website but everything seemed to be the same about each one.
Thanks in advance

Both are polyester balls with pancake cores that will roll straight, regardless of the oil pattern. If performance is not an issue, buy the one that looks the best in the weight you’re most comfortable with.

If you are looking for a bit more performance, but don’t want to spend a lot of money, I suggest you check out the Scout Reactive made by Columbia. Your pro shop operator can be very helpful in recommending a value-priced ball.

Where can I sell my bowling ball locally in Chicago?

Sunday, April 25th, 2010

I’m trying to find a place to sell my bowling ball in Chicago. I can’t seem to find a place that buys used Bowling balls. Anyone know of any place?

I would try Play it Again Sports. I don’t know where you live but there’s a number of stores in the area. I know for sure there’s one at Irving and Ashland.

Clinching The Best Deal In Real Estate

Saturday, April 24th, 2010

In order to be able to solve other peoples problems, you must have more knowledge, ability, experience, contacts, and resources. But, just having the ability to solve other peoples problem is not enough. You must have your strategy drawn out such that you can get people calling on you or coming to you with their specific problems/deals before your competitors succeed to reach them. Let me give you some tips, which can effectively help you finding some great deals.

Get The First Copies Off The Press
Whether it is bulletin boards, local papers, or small independent publications, make sure you get one of the first copies of such publications advertising the real estate off the press. Let no one beat you to the punch. The best way to do this is to go directly to the facility that houses the press and get your copy before others.

Advertise Yourself
It is always prudent to advertise yourself so that those people who are thinking about selling can get back to you. This can be very beneficial because once these sellers decide to advertise, the competition will be high and your chances of getting that deal will be low. So, act fast.

Choose A Large Population Center
By choosing large population centers, you can effectively increase the probability of your success. But, at the same time, you will also have to remain in the market with your eyes open and constantly looking out for your type of deal.

Foreclosure Auctions, Tax Sales, And HUD and VA Listed Properties
Keep a watch on your local paper and see if there are any foreclosure auctions, tax sales, and HUD and VA listed properties. You must keep in mind that the best way to avoid competition and get the property at a very low price is to participate in the auctions that are held in bad weather and where the property has to be sold at any cost. Therefore, keep your eyes open, and if you find such an opportunity, grab it!

Post Fliers
Mark out the place where large numbers of people gather, such as colleges, shopping centers, public bulletin boards, local businesses, churches, Bowling alleys, etc. Post fliers at all such places. While doing this, you must work with proper planning. You can print cards that inform readers that the advertiser will pay them a good sum (say $200) if they refer a property which you, the advertiser, might be interested in. If you are distributing business cards, print a bulk of them and get them distributed. You can also advertise yourself through other media such as television, radio, phone books, street benches, bumper stickers, billboards etc.

Never Miss Even The Smallest Opportunity
Even if the properties are overpriced, make as low an offer as you can, and forget it. This costs nothing to you, but it may gain much. Your deal might get selected and you may receive a call after a month or so.

Overall, if you keep in mind the above things, you will certainly end up clinching some great deals.

A Male Menopause? Top 5 Andropause Symptoms

Saturday, April 24th, 2010

Picture this–you are a forty year old man reading the newspaper on a Sunday morning. You used to enjoy this weekly ritual, but you feel irritable today. Actually, you haven’t felt like yourself recently. You are happy with your job and your relationships, but you feel tired and depressed and you don’t know why. You haven’t been sleeping well and your sex life isn’t what it used to be.

Before you reach for another cup of coffee, ask yourself–have I had my testosterone levels checked to see if I have andropause?

Understanding Male Andropause:
Andropause is a medical condition caused by low testosterone levels in men. Low testosterone levels affect some men in their late 20s, and all men experience the symptoms of andropause to some extent in their 40s and beyond. Andropause in men is similar to menopause in women, except the symptoms of andropause (and the intensity of those symptoms) can vary greatly. It is estimated that at least 95% of men in their fifties experience the symptoms of andropause.

Andropause has received little medical attention until recently, as doctors attributed the symptoms of andropause to old age or depression. However, andropause is a real condition and it can be treated. The symptoms of andropause vary from male to male, and the top 5 symptoms are listed below.

The Top 5 Symptoms of Andropause:

1. Depression
2. Sweating and hot flashes
3. Decreased libido and erectile dysfunction
4. Fatigue
5. Poor concentration and memory

Andropause may be accompanied by other symptoms. Below are additional symptoms.

More Symptoms of Andropause:

- Decreased muscle mass
- Sleep disturbance
- Osteoporosis
- Body fat gain, particularly abdominal weight gain
- Aches and pains
- Loss of height

Ways to alleviate the symptoms of andropause:

There are several uniformly accepted changes to human behavior that can have a noticeable impact on the effects of the progression of andropause. Three basic, but trusted principles are:

- Exercise regularly
- Eat well
- Moderate consumption of alcohol

Exercise:
Andropause symptoms directly correlate with depression. Exercising will improve your mood and make you feel better by increasing endorphins. Consider these suggestions: go for a run, play tennis, make a trip to the Bowling alley, or grab a basketball and head to the court.

Eating well:

Eating well can have a positive impact on your energy and mood. Try to incorporate Omega-3 fats, folic acid and B12, and Vitamin D into your diet, which have been shown to decrease depression. You can get Omega-3 fats from salmon, walnuts, and flaxseed, folic acid from oatmeal, broccoli, organs, and fortified whole-grain breakfast cereals, B12 from cottage cheese, lean beef, and eggs, and Vitamin D from milk.

Alcohol:

Each body reacts differently to alcohol consumption. Be mindful of your current consumption levels and frequency of consumption and consider the following–alcohol lowers serotonin and norpinephrine levels, which acts as a depressant. Remember, depression is too often a misdiagnosis of andropause given by family doctors.

Methods of Andropause Treatment:

The most common andropause treatment is testosterone replacement therapy. Consult your physician to determine if testosterone replacement therapy is the right treatment for you–he will be able to measure the level of testosterone in your blood. If you area candidate for replacement therapy, your physician can explain the alternatives available for treatment, which include skin patches and creams among other sources.

Most men notice the benefits of testosterone replacement therapy within 2-4 weeks. The benefits are listed below:

- Reduced fatigue
- Improved quality of sleep
- Improvement in mood and sense of well being
- Increased energy
- Increased body mass, muscle strength, and bone density
- Increased male libido (male sex drive)

Too many men are being misdiagnosed and improperly treated by general family physicians. If you suspect you have andropause symptoms or want to learn more about andropause treatment, it is encouraged you do some independent research. There are several online sites that can provide information about andropause and male menopause solutions.

A Small History of Bowling Balls

Saturday, April 24th, 2010

Every man needs to practice some kind of sport in order to detach from daily activities and worries. Some prefer physical sports like soccer or football, or games that stimulate the intellect like chess. There are also other sports that can be practiced indoors with minimum requirements as far as physical abilities go. Among them we can name pool and bowling.

Let’s talk about bowling. Even though it may seem like a relatively new sport, this kind of activity has been going on for more than seven thousand years. It can be traced back to Ancient Egypt, where those guys used stone for their bowling balls.

Before the 20th century, in the US, bowling balls were manufactured from wood, oak in particular. In the beginning of the 20th century though, hard rubber was introduced as the new material used for manufacturing bowling balls, and this remained the same for over 60 years.

The next step in the manufacturing process came in the 1970s, when some people started to experiment with the hardness of plastic bowling balls. The developer of this project is known to be Don McCune, who was working at the time for Chuck Hamilton. The later developed a way to soften the balls with solvents, which resulted in a softer cover and higher scoring.

Because of this, USBC went as far as barring some softer bowling balls. It also represented one of the main reasons why USBC introduced some balance regulations for balls, in order to prevent the advantage of some players which could either make the ball hook more of roll earlier.

The beginning of the 1980s marked the introduction of polyurethane as the main material used for manufacturing Bowling Balls. Ebonite was the one to develop the technology, but the rights were sold to AMF, because the developers did not believe players would pay the high price demanded by the technology. It proved to be a big mistake.

AMF started to produce this kind of balls because they got a better grip on the polyurethane finishes that were used on the lanes manufactured from natural wood. This caused a major change and proved to be a turning point for the entire game of bowling.

In the 1990s the regulations regarding the densities of the balls were changed. Instead of a uniform sphere surrounded by a coating, perfectly centered inside the ball, other methods for manufacturing were now being developed.

No matter what kind of ball a player uses to knock down the pins, transporting the ball from your home to the bowling alley presented some problems. Because of this, bowling bags were introduced to make the task easier. The companies that manufacture the balls have started to produce bowling bags also.

For players that are interested in bowling bags and balls, the internet is the best place to start. One of the websites that offers great prices on bowling bags, balls and any kind of bowling accessory is mgBowling.com. Check out the site and see for yourself.
