Im 5′ 9" and weigh 155-160 lbs, im 15. I have been using a really light 9 lb house ball because the fingers are small, so i can do my hook shot properly. Any suggestions? should i get a 12lb 13 lb or 14lb? I want to get a ball thats cheap (less than $100)
Perfect question! My son is about your height, weight and age. He uses the same two finger style of bowling, has a 12 lb. Brunswick International Dry Zone and a 14 lb. Brunswick Red Zone. In about a year’s time of bowling seriously, his high game is 259 and averages about 190 right now.
Only thing about using house balls is that your fingers are not matched up to the holes about 75% of the time and that could cause injury and discomfort during and after bowling.
You can definitely get any bowling ball out there with your style, but it would not make any sense to purchase a $150 reactive resin or particle bowling ball when you will overpower the lane with your revolution rate and aggressive coverstock/core combination.
The perfect types of Bowling Balls would be reactive coverstock balls such as the Ebonite Tornado, Brunswick Groove, Brunswick Avalanche, Columbia 300 Scout or the Storm Tropical Storm. They can be found in the $60-$90 range and you can find them with high gloss coverstocks or a bit dull, depending if you bowl on light or heavy oil. Your Bowling ball driller can also use an exotic drilling to make the ball go straighter with a massive hook at the end. Just tell them what your style looks like and they definitely can help! Good luck!
