Seeking Tips for Bowling Strait-on as opposed to spinning the ball because I cannot spin the Ball?

I typically shoot 150 Bowling strait on and I know my score is ultimately going to have a ceiling because I do not spin the ball but I was hoping to get anyones advice/tips on bowling strait on or strait on coming in from an angle? I have a tournament in two weeks and if these tips can help me go from a 150 per round to a 165 per round I shold WIN!! Many thanks to all you strait on bowling Gurus!

Bowling straight is not a bad thing. Especially if you are able to deliver the ball and have it hook last minute into the pocket like about 1/2 of the professional bowlers on tour. Take Walter Ray Williams Jr. for instance. His style of bowling straight with equipment that hooks basically last minute worked for him since the early 1980′s that he is the best bowler in the world and has been inducted in the major bowling hall of fames and he’s still an active bowler!

Hooking the ball basically is what everyone can do, and it’s just a matter of keeping your hand behind the ball during address and approach, then at the point of release, moving your hand in a counterclockwise direction (for right handers) with your hand ending up like you just shook someone’s hand. The ball will go straight, then will hook on the lane with or without a slight curve, then onto the pocket if your targeting is correct. The hooking motion basically allows the ball to enter the pocket at an angle where it will maximize pin action and more strikes in your score. Straighter trajectory balls tend to deflect or drive straight through and enable splits more easier.

It’s just a matter of practice, having a capable reactive urethane, particle or reactive resin ball and practicing muscle memory so that almost every shot will be the same. Good luck!
