What causes a sound like bowling balls in my hot water heater after I run the hot water?

mineral & silt deposits, here,s how you get rid of them. Connect garden hose to drain pipe, run hose outside, turn on drain valve until water comes out other end.Turn top knob to pilot. Turn valve at upper right off ( incoming water) Open hot faucet on tub if 2 or 3 handle or sink faucet. Let heater drain till no water comes out of hose. Turn valveon full (incoming water) for 1 minute. this will stir silt left on bottom.Do this 4 times till water exiting hose is clear.Turn drain valve off,and refill heater leaving faucet open to purge air from heater and hot pipe system, turn top knob on gas control back to on.NOTE; Depending on age of heater, this process could result in heater springing a leak , this should be done yearly but I would only recommend doing it with a fairly new heater. I have done this with heaters with no problems but there is always that possibility ( which has occured)
