I usually bowl for fun, but recently I started to improve my form and bowl competitively. After researching about Bowling balls, I have concluded with the Storm Tropical Storm (Indigo/Ivory) and the Power Groove as beginner hook balls. What should I consider when purchasing either or? Which is best? Any other recommendations?
The Tropical Storm and Power Groove are popular balls for beginners that are just learning to hook. However, many people that advance past that stage go on to more advanced balls and have no use for their first ball, since they only have a pancake core and very little striking power. I’ve heard that Roto-grip beginner balls (Mars, Pluto) have a more power with their asymmetric cores, you might want to take a look at those.
